Who you are dealing with
Northline Office is a practice in New York.
Northline Office is the operating name of a sole proprietorship based in New York State. When this page says "we" it means that business, and when it says "you" it means whoever is using the site or hiring us.
Several products carry the Northline name and have their own terms, which govern those products rather than this page: FileKiln, GradeKiln, ShapeKiln, MakerKiln, OfficeKiln and Mirror Monitor. Each publishes its own terms and privacy pages at its own address. Where a product's terms and this page disagree about that product, the product's terms win.
The free tools
Free, unmetered, and without warranty.
The tools linked from this site are free to use, for any purpose including commercial work, with no account and no sign-up. Most of them run entirely in your browser, which means the file you open never leaves your machine. Where a tool says that on its own page, that statement is the promise and it is checkable: open your browser's network tab and watch.
They are provided as they are. We test them and we fix what we find, but we do not warrant that any tool is correct, available, or fit for a particular purpose, and we are not liable for what you do with the output. Check anything that matters before you rely on it. If a tool gets something wrong, tell us and it gets fixed.
We can change or retire a tool at any time. Nothing here is a promise that a given tool will exist next year.
Consulting
Hourly, quoted, and cancellable.
Consulting is billed by the hour, at the rate agreed when you book. Sessions are booked by request, and once the rate is agreed they're paid online through Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe's pages and never touch ours, and we never see a card number.
If you need to move or cancel a booked session, tell us before it starts and we move it or refund it. If we have to move a session, the same applies in your favour. Ongoing delivery beyond single sessions is scoped and quoted in writing before any work starts, and that written quote is the agreement for that work.
Advice given in a session is professional opinion, not legal, tax, accounting or medical advice, and it is not a guarantee of any business outcome. Decisions you take are yours.
What belongs to whom
Your work stays yours.
Anything you put into a tool or send us in a session is yours. We claim no rights over your files, your data or your business information, and we do not use them to train anything.
The writing, design and code on this site belong to Northline Office, except where a page says otherwise. Some of our code is published under an open licence, and where that is the case the licence on that repository governs it and is more permissive than this page. Deliverables from paid work are yours to use once the invoice for them is paid.
Fair use
Use it like a person, not a scraper.
Use the site and the tools for lawful purposes. Do not attempt to break, overload or probe the site, do not use it to process material you have no right to, and do not scrape it at a rate that degrades it for anyone else. We can block access that does, without notice.
The legal line
The part every page like this has.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Northline Office is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from the site, the free tools or advice given, and our total liability for any claim connected to a paid engagement is limited to the amount you paid us for that engagement.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for fraud. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, and the courts of New York State have jurisdiction over any dispute. If any part of this page is unenforceable, the rest still stands.
We can update this page. The date at the top is when it last changed, and a material change to a paid arrangement will be told to you directly rather than left on a page for you to find.
